Larry’s Sermon TITLE: Believing, Knowing, and Doing
TEXT: Romans 10:5-13
The Laundry Room Mission
Evelyn was a retired teacher who had lived in her neighborhood for over 30 years. She believed deeply in God’s presence in everyday life—not just in Sunday services but in slow moments like folding towels or chatting over coffee. Her faith wasn’t loud, but it was firm.
Every week she went to the local laundromat, not because she didn’t own a washer, but because she knew that was where she could meet people—single moms, college students, elderly folks on fixed incomes. She'd bring snacks, a thermos of coffee, and a box of detergent with the note: “Take what you need.”
She believed that God wanted her to serve. She knew Scripture—not just in theory, but in a way that shaped her instinct to notice loneliness, encourage others, and offer dignity without preaching at people.
One Wednesday, a young man named Marcus wandered in, looking worn out. Evelyn offered him coffee and made space for conversation. He was going through a breakup and job loss. She didn’t quote Romans or offer a sermon—she listened, asked about his goals, and shared her own stories of God showing up in her valleys.
Months later, Marcus showed up at Evelyn’s church. Not because she invited him, but because he said, “Whatever you have—I want to know that kind of peace.” Marcus obeyed the gospel because of the example of Evelyn.
Believing: Evelyn trusted that God was active in the mundane
Knowing: She understood scripture and human nature enough to respond wisely.
Doing: Her consistency was her routine—consistent kindness, presence, and action.
